Eleanor Friedberger (born September 2, 1976 in Oak Park, Illinois) is part of the indie rock duo The Fiery Furnaces with her brother Matthew Friedberger. In the band she contributes the majority of the vocals both on record and during their live performances. Albums released with The Fiery Furnaces include Gallowsbird's Bark, Blueberry Boat and Rehearsing My Choir. Eleanor grew up singing with her grandmother, Olga Sarantos and family in a Greek Orthodox Church.[link] Details of events in Sarantos' life are depicted on the Rehearsing My Choir album.

From the summer of 2004, Eleanor and the band gained a lot of press coverage from her relationship with Alex Kapranos, the lead singer of Glasgow based band Franz Ferdinand. This coverage was increased even further when Franz Ferdinand included the song "Eleanor Put Your Boots On" on their second album You Could Have It So Much Better.

Her relationship with Kapranos is thought to have started while both bands were touring in 2004 also with Sons and Daughters. In an interview that year, when Alex was asked who he thought the sex symbol of 2004 was he replied[link], "Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces. I've got a big crush on her."
