Eleanor Roosevelt is a public high school located on the upper east side of Manhattan in New York City, New York, United States.
School History
Eleanor Roosevelt High School was opened in September 2003. The first and current principal is Susan Elliott. Ms. Elliott served as Assistant Principal of Baruch College Campus High School where she was one of the founders of the school. Prior to that she helped to start Urban Peace Academy, an alternative high school in District 4, and worked there as an administrative assistant and math teacher.She started her career as a middle school math teacher in District 15.Structure
Eleanor Roosevelt is equipped with six floors, two modern science labratories, two elevators, a miniature gym, an art studio, computer lab with three different formats (Mac, PC, and Linux), and an impressing music room with four sound proof rooms and a closet filled with instruments.The Student Body
The school, which serves grades nine through twelve, is a part of the New York City Department of Education. Since the school had a full student body, there have been roughly five-hundred students enrolled, making it have a rather small student population, at least in comparison to other schools in the New York City Department of Education. The school has already proved to be a highly intellectual and academically rigorous school for New York City students. Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the top ranked public high schools in New York. Eleanor Roosevelt High School will have its first graduating class in June 2006, with the students going on to such colleges as Bard, Barnard, Baruch College, Dutchess Community College, Hunter College, Penn State, and Smith College.Achievements
- Eleanor Roosevelt's Science Olympiad group for the "Write It, Do It" Tournament won second place to Townsend Harris, 2006.
- Eleanor Roosevelt also took PSAL (Public School Athletic League ) Tennis Division "B" Championship second year after entering the public school league, 2006.
