Elder is an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia. It is named after nineteenth-century businessman and philanthropist Thomas Elder. Elder is a 16.4km² urban electorate in Adelaide's south-west, taking in the suburbs of Ascot Park, Melrose Park, Morphettville and Park Holme, as well as parts of Clarence Gardens, Clovelly Park, Daw Park, Edwardstown, Marion, Mitchell Park, Oaklands Park, Pasadena, Plympton Park, South Plympton and St Marys.
Elder was created as a marginal Labor electorate at the 1991 electoral redistribution, but was won by Liberal David Wade amidst the landslide Liberal victory at the 1993 state election. Wade only lasted one term, as while he faced a smaller than average swing at the 1997 election, he only had a small margin, and was easily defeated by Labor candidate Patrick Conlon. Conlon had little difficulty being re-elected at the 2002 election, and as a senior minister in the Rann government, appears unlikely to be challenged for the foreseeable future.
