Electoral district of Mitcham
Encyclopedia : E : EL : ELE : Electoral district of Mitcham
The Electoral district of Mitcham is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is centered around Mitcham and Blackburn in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
Created prior to the 1967 election it has, with one exception, always been held by the current government. The one exception was a 1997 by-election which was won by the Australian Labor Party with a massive 16% swing, signaling a revival in the performance of the ALP prior to the 1999 election where they narrowly retained the seat and even more narrowly won government.
The current member for Mitcham is Tony Robinson. The Liberal Party will require a swing of 7.69% to regain the seat at the 2006 election.
