Electoral district of Richmond
Encyclopedia : E : EL : ELE : Electoral district of Richmond
The Electoral district of Richmond is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is currently based around the suburbs of Richmond and Fitzroy and has been in existence since 1856.
The seat has been traditionally very safe for the Australian Labor Party, it has held continuously since 1908 except immediately after the 1955 split when it was held for one term by the Democratic Labor Party. Recently a surge in support for The Greens has made this seat marginal, at the 2002 Election the Green candidate Gemma Pinnell nearly won the seat after receiving Liberal preferences.
The current member is Richard Wynne who has held the seat since 1999.
