Elei Sinai

Elei Sinai (Hebrew: ) was a community settlement in the north of Gaza Strip. It was established in 1982 (Sukkoth 5743) by a group from Yamit's pulled-out. It got its name because of the yearning to come back to Sinai. About 100 families lived in the place. Avi Farhan, from Yamit's pulled out, and Arik Herfez, whose daughter had been killed by Palestinian terrorists belonged tothe most famous of Elei Sinai's residents. The settlement was pulled out in August 21st, 2005 in the framework of the Disengagement Plan. A part of Elei Sinai's residents was pulled out in "Hand to Brothers" opertion or before. Most of the residents protested that the government hadn't cared for housing results for the community abd they lighted tires in the entrance of the settlement. This part pulled out itself in the end, after a departure ceremony and went out by foot from the settlement, when Arik Herfez in the head of the convoy dragging with him the memorialization monument in the memory of Liron and Assaf, which had bben positioned in the settlement. A group of 50 families eatblished after the transfer in Yad Mordechai cross as a protest that the government hadn't found for them community solution. The government responded in 2006 to the demand of Elei Sinai pulled-out to be acclimatized in Palmahim Kibbutz after the Disengagement Plan execution, after they had been spending many months in a protest tent encampent. Palmachim Kibbutz members expressed their agreement for the pulled-out absorption and blessed them for their joining.
