Elemental Masters is a fantasy series written by Mercedes Lackey, They focus on people who have magic over air, water, fire, or earth. Each elemntal master has power over elementals. Earth is with gnomes, water with undines, air with sylphs, and fire with salamanders. Water and fire masters are not compatible and earth and air masters are opposites. Each book in the series is loosely based on a fairy tale. The Serpent's Shadow is based on Snow White, The Gates of Sleep on Sleeping Beauty, The Fire Rose on Beauty and the Beast, Phoenix and Ashes on Cinderella, and The Wizard of London on The Snow Queen.
