Eliane Elias is a jazz pianist from Brazil who works in New York since 1981.

Eliane Elias was born March 19, 1960 in São Paulo, Brazil. Her mother Lucy, was a classical pianist who often played jazz records in the family home. Elaine started piano at age six. She studied at the Free Center of Music Apprenticeship in Sao Paulo. She started composing and, more notably, performing her own jazz pieces with seventeen. On a tour in Europe in 1981, she met jazz bassist Eddie Gomez and was encouraged to travel to New York. In New York she was later invited to join Steps Ahead, and recorded one album with the group -- Steps Ahead -- in 1983. After leaving Steps Ahead, shew worked with trumpet player Randy Brecker, whom she subsequently married. They recorded an Album named after their daughter Amanda. Strating in 1986, Elias has become a successfull bandleader. She recorded several abums, even recoding a duet with Herbie Hancock. Starting with the album Eliane Elias Plays Jobim in 1989, she added her own vocals to her recordings. Elaine is now married to bassist Marc Johnson, with whom she produced several albums.
