Elsbridge

Elsbridge is a fictional small town or village on the equally fictional Island of Sodor created by the Rev W Awdry as a setting for his Railway Series children's books. The name Elsbridge is a nod to the Rev Awdry's real parish of Elsworth.
Elsbridge as its name sugggests is in the Els Valley close to the towns of Tidmouth and Knapford. The River Els enters the Sudrian Sea at Knapford.
Elsbridge in the books
Elsbridge railway station is situated on Thomas's branch line it is here where Thomas collected water from the river that had fish in it and also where Bertie the Bus had to stop for a traffic light during his race with Thomas.
It was also at Elsbridge that whilst waiting for a signal to change that Stepney the Bluebell Engine had a cricket ball land in one of his trucks.
According to the "research" into Sodor's history by the Rev Awdry, Elsbridge was the terminus of one of Sodor's first railways the Knapford and Elsbridge Light Railway that was later extended from Knapford to Tidmouth. When this railway became part of the North Western Railway the line was extended past Elsbridge to Ffarquhar.
Elsbridge on TV
Elsbridge Station from the TV series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends is the station at The Junction on Thomas's Branch Line. It is in the countryside and has two platforms.
Sometimes in the TV series the junction was shown to be also Lower Tidmouth station.
Elsbridge was introduced in Season 1, but has not been seen since from Season 4.
Origins
The name "Elsbridge" first appeared on a sketch map drawn by Rev. W. Awdry to illustrate the story in which Thomas the Tank Engine and Bertie the Bus have a race. The name comes from the town of Elsworth, where Awdry lived at the time.
