Elstree Rural District

Encyclopedia : E : EL : ELS : Elstree Rural District

Barnet (after 1941 Elstree) was a rural district in Hertfordshire, England from 1894 to 1974.

It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 under the name of Barnet, and consisted of the parishes of Arkley, Elstree, Ridge, Shenley and Totteridge. The parish of Totteridge constitued an exclave.

Arkley became part of the Barnet Urban District in 1905, and was joined there by Totteridge in 1914.

The remaining district was renamed the Elstree rural district in 1941. It was abolished in 1974, and merged with other districts to form the Hertsmere borough.
