An emerging superpower or potential superpower is a country showing the potential to become a superpower in the near future.
Currently, the United States is regarded as the world's only superpower—a term used to describe a state with a significant worldwide influence. Some have even termed it a hyperpower. However, in the future, another country could become as or more influential than the United States. Since the early part of this decade, two emerging nations—China and India—and one evolving supranational entity—the European Union—were referred to, in many media sources, as having the potential to be a superpower.
- China as an emerging superpower
- European Union as an emerging superpower
- India as an emerging superpower
