Emerica is a skateboarding shoe manufacturer which is based in California, USA and owned by Sole Technology. The company was originally started when Sole Technology lost the licensing rights to the Etnies brand name. Sole Technology eventually purchased the Etnies brand name outright and restarted the brand,http://www.twsbiz.com/twbiz/industrynews/article/0,21214,704593,00.html but kept Emerica, and focused the company on core skateboarding, whereas Etnies has a broader market approach, also catering to surf, women's, and BMX footwear.
At the end of 2005, Emerica veteran Erik Ellington left the company to join Supra Footwear, a new skateboard footwear company started by his clothing sponsor, KR3W.
