Empty City is an upcoming dramatic film to be written and directed by Mike Binder, who previously wrote and directed The Upside of Anger. The story tells the story of a man (played by Adam Sandler) who lost his family in the September 11 attacks whose rekindling of an old friendship with a former college roommate (Don Cheadle) helps him deal with his grief.
The film began shooting in New York City, New York in March 2006, and in Los Angeles shortly after that. The budget is just over $20 million dollars. The film was originally known as Reign O'er Me (from The Who's song Love, Reign O'er Me), but changed to the current title around the start of production. It should be released in late 2006 or at some point in 2007.
Brad Pitt campaigned and was considered for the main character role that ultimately went to Sandler.
