Enkarterriak

Enkarterriak (Basque language|Basque) or Encartaciones (Spanish language|Spanish) is a historical sub-region of Biscay. Incorporated only some time after the foundation of the province, it had a special statute that combined Castilian and Navarrese right. It extends from the river Nervion and the Stuary of Bilbao to the west, stretching between the mountains that make the border with Cantabria and Castile-Leon.
Nowadays the name is most commonly used to refer to the rural part of the historical territory, while the urban area is known as the Left Bank (Margen Izquierda, Ezkerraldea) of the stuary.
Its main river is the Kadagua river that drains most of its territory.
