Epaphus

Encyclopedia : E : EP : EPA : Epaphus

In Greek mythology, Epaphus, also called Apis, is the son of Zeus and Io. Epaphus is mostly known for founding the city of Memphis, Egypt. With his wife, named Memphis, he had one daughter: Libya. Hera (the wife and sister of Zeus) was jealous of Zeus, so she took him. Eventually Io found Epaphus, and they lived in Egypt where he founded the city of Memphis and then became Memphis' king.

Epaphus was a good friend with Phaeton, actually they looked similar in appearance. One day Epaphus joked upon Phaeton's heraldry, which prompted him to undertake his fateful journey in his father Phoebus' chariot of the sun. Epaphus had a bad destiny: the Titans ate him alive (like they did to Dionysus).

According to Prometheus Bound (verses 593-906) the thirteenth descendant of Epaphos will unleash Prometheus. The Greek word "Epaphi" means contact or link.
