Equal Opportunities Commission
Encyclopedia : E : EQ : EQU : Equal Opportunities Commission
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) is a independent non-departmental public body, (NDPB) or quango, in the United Kingdom. Its task is to enforce, through court action if necessary, the various gender equality legislation that exists in the UK. Due to the ability of the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly to vary the law in this area, separate EOC sub-agencies exist for Scotland and Wales [#endnote_EOC]. Similar agencies exist for other categories of equality law.
The EOC is sponsored as an NDPB by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
