European Good Templar Youth Federation
Encyclopedia : E : EU : EUR : European Good Templar Youth Federation
The European Good Templar Youth Federation is a non-governmental umbrella organisation gathering European youth temperance organisations. It is associated with, but not the European branch of, the International Organisation of Good Templars.
The main aim of EGTYF is peace and tolerance in the world. They consider alcohol and other drugs one of the main reasons of violence and conflicts among people and therefore members of EGTYF promote a drug-free lifestyle by their own abstinence - to prove that having fun, making friends and being free is possible without alcohol and/or other drugs, as is common belief around the world today.
EGTYF is only an umbrella organisation and thus doesn't do much work of its own - EGTYF provides the space for self-realisation, for making new contacts, for exchange projects, education and much more and is a support for each national organisation in reaching the main common goal - peace and human dignity.
EGTYF also arranges the annual EGTYF Summer Camp. The camp of 2005 was held in Altthymen, Germany. The [2006 EGTYF Camp and Congress "Jump06"]takes place in Basel-Münchenstein, Switzerland.
As of February 2006, the organization is led by Hege Sørvig, Norway.
