The European Election Law Association (EURELA) is an international network of scholars dedicated to the study of elections, voting systems and election law.
About the EURELA
In 2003 leading European experts on different aspects of elections have joined in European Election Law Association (Eurela). Currently over 200 academics and election law experts from over 80 leading universities and research institutions are joined in the network. They are leading international authorities on issues like electoral systems, electoral redistricting, campaign finance and political corruption, harmonisation of European Parliament election laws, democratization of transitional democracies, and even U.S. or Australian election law. While most of the network members are university professors, many of them are also Supreme Court or Constitutional Court judges or practicing lawyers. Many of the network members are also active as leading politicians, as international election monitors (through OSCE or UN missions, for instance) or as senior legal advisors to heads of governments.Goals and activities of the network and its members include publication of the state-of-the-art scientific research on elections and election law, including books, edited volumes and working papers; running a website with international election law news and archives of these news; organisation of international conferences and publication of volumes of scientific papers presented; running an international visiting lectures program; running of Internet based database of the recent research of the network participants. Eurela also monitors elections thru its observation missions, most recently it observed the May 2006 Azerbaijani elections.
Network members are connected through the email based discussion mailinglist. Eurela also publishes daily news on its website www.eurela.org and the Eurela News, a weekly newsletter. Jurij Toplak [link] of University of Maribor Law School coordinates the activities of the network.
