Evening Prayer (Common Worship)
Encyclopedia : E : EV : EVE : Evening Prayer (Common Worship)
Evening Prayer according to Common Worship is a liturgy used in the Church of England in the late afternoon or evening. It represents a move back towards the traditional Liturgy of the Hours in the liturgy of the Church of England. Whereas the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) provided for only two daily prayer services, Morning Prayer (or "Mattins") and Evening Prayer (or "Evensong"), Common Worship reinstates a third, that of Night Prayer (or "Compline"), and institutes a fourth (Prayer During the Day). The BCP service of Evening Prayer had been formed by combining the two Roman Catholic services of Vespers and Compline, but in Common Worship the two services are once again separated, becoming known as "Evening Prayer" and "Night Prayer".
