Everybody Wants To Rule the World is a song by Tears for Fears written by Roland Orzabal, Ian Stanley and Chris Hughes, from their 1985 album Songs from the Big Chair. It was one of the favourite songs of the year 1985 in the UK, also became their first number one single in the United States, and was one of the defining songs of the 80's.
The song discusses the impact that the media has and how they all struggle for control. It was featured in the 1985 Val Kilmer film Real Genius, and for many years was the opening theme song for the talk show Dennis Miller Live.
It also plays over the opening credits of the 1992 British film Peter's Friends, and the teaser trailer for Click.
