Excalibur (laser)

The Excalibur is a fictional chemical laser weapon in Ace Combat Zero placed in Tauberg of Belka. It was created originally for anti-missile purposes, but its potential as an antiaircraft weapon was realized, and soon it was employed against Ustio forces in the Schayne Plains in southern Belka.
History
Developed in 1981, it is a symbol of Belka's military dominance. It is categorized as a chemical laser based weapon which was designed to shoot down incoming missiles and to stop enemy invasions. By utilizing high-altitude aircraft and satellites carrying reflectors, the laser's range can be extended to counteract the curvature of the earth and achieve a range of 1,200 km.Due to the massive amount of energy needed to power such a weapon, it is powered by surrounding solar panels. The heat generated around the tower after firing causes heat-blooming, which lessens the power of the laser, and can even damage the tower. Thus, massive coolant towers are placed around the weapon, allowing rapid firing. This rate of fire enables Excalibur to destroy many targets before the facility can be damaged. Even then, the main weapon is protected by railway-based laser guns. This technology is similar in design to the Arkbird's laser system (and to a lesser extent the ADF-01 Falken's laser system) in Ace Combat 5 as part of Belka was taken over by Osea and Gründer Industries began to sell its cache of weapons and technology.
The weapon is destroyed by Ustian merceneries during the Belkan War in 1995.
