Expo '98 was a World's Fair held at Parque das Nações (Park of the Nations) in Lisbon, Portugal from May 22 to September 30 1998. The theme of the fair was "The Oceans: A Heritage for the Future." This in part commemorated 500 years of Portuguese exploration and discovery. The fair received about 11 million visitors in its 132 days. 146 countries and 14 international organizations participated. BIE considered the Lisbon's Expo the best of all.

Before and After

The area renovated for the Expo '98 was previously an industrial area that already showed signs of decay, whose relative proximity to the city centre, on the Tagus River shore, made it the ideal choice for the construction. It is now a thriving modern, stylish and safe area, attracting large numbers of visitors to its gardens, museums, commercial areas and modern buildings. It is also increasingly growing as a business center, with many multinational corporations basing their headquarters in its main avenue.
