Field Exercise I at The Basic School, Marine Corps Base Quantico is a four and a half day evolution that acts as a refresher / introduction into Squad Infantry tactics for all new officers in the United States Marine Corps.

Day 1 is typically squad attacks and offensive maneuvers using blank ammunition with a new "squad leader" for each separate attack.

Day 2 is typically squad defensive maneuvers and fortification with a new "squad leader" for each separate mission. Each new mission normally requires a 500 - 1000 meter movement followed by digging fox holes. Over the course of the day roughly four officers are given the opportunity to lead.

Day 3 is either a call for fire exercise with artillery or movement to a live fire range where these new officers are given a chance to put their work to use against popup targets.

Day 4 is whichever of the exercises was not completed on day 3.
