FL Zeta is the Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Tampa. Re-colonized in the fall of 2003 and Chartered in November of 2005 it is one of the most reconized Chapters on UT's campus.
History
On August 2003 Corey Adams a representative of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity came to the University of Tampa to re-colonize Fl Zeta after the original chapter was kicked off campus four years prior. Nationals brought with them the Balanced Man Program; something that was novel and fresh to current and past Greek culture on campus. The former chapter had been number one on campus before bing removed for a party violation, and the new chapter would strive to follow this legacey. To allow this a new recruiting method was used on campus. Instead of open recruiting only recommendations from recognized organizations and esteemed faculty were taken to start off the chapter with 41 new brothers.
The result was 41 men who would become the new founding fathers of the FL Zeta Chapter at the University of Tampa. Shortly after founding, the chapter lost some 14 members, but the core 36 founding father stood strong and built an organization that would flourish and provide a lasting impact on the campus and community.
FL Zeta’s was offically re-colonized as the Tampa SEC chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon on September, 24 2003. Since then 5 presidents have taken over the organization with three serving in the first semester of Fl Zeta’s founding. This is not to say the budding chapter was chaotic or disorganized rather the dynamics of the group required different talents as it progressed along the evolutionary track as an organization.
Present Day
Today FL Zeta still strives to sort out many kinks and to establish lasting local traditions for further brothers to call their own. As for living up to the previous chapter, FL Zeta has already met that goal winning Fraternity of the year on campus before being chartered as a Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapter. FL Zeta has also won every major competition on campus at least twice and has taken home various other awards including being number one on campus in GPA and in community service hours. The FL Zeta chapter was officially chartered in November of 2005.
Misson Statement
FL Zeta has its own unique mission statement which guides the organizations activities. “We, the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon, strive to better ourselves and influence our surrounding communities in a positive way. We live by the three principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love. Our national fraternity’s mission statement is “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities.” To achieve this goal, we develop each brother in both mind and body. The sound mind encompasses a brother’s academics, interpersonal, and intrapersonal relationships. The sound body encompasses a brother’s athletic involvement, physical activity, and health related decisions. Through positive brotherly influence and a vast variety of programming, we foster an environment where each brother can develop in both mind and body while forming fraternal bonds that will last a lifetime.”
