The automatic protection of programs and/or processing systems when a hardware or software failure is detected in a computer system.

Sax2

One of the most common issues is display setting issues and fails, lucky rather than editing your XF86Config, SuSE has provided a tool called sax2.

If your display fails or you do a driver update and have no display i.e nvidia/ATI driver then do the following. Your stuck at the console with no GUI, login as root, type init3, login root and run code:

sax2 -m 0=vesa
this will set your display to use VESA which is a standard compliant for monitors and graphics cards. From here you can configure your display settings.
