Fairfield County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. As of 2000, the population was 122,759. Its county seat is Lancaster6. Its name is a reference to the topography there.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,317 km² (509 mi²). 1,308 km² (505 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (3 mi²) of it (0.69%) is water.Adjacent counties

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 122,759 people, 45,425 households, and 34,159 families residing in the county. The population density was 94/km² (243/mi²). There were 47,922 housing units at an average density of 37/km² (95/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.15% White, 2.67% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 45,425 households out of which 36.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.70% were married couples living together, 9.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.80% were non-families. 20.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.80% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 30.20% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 11.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $47,962, and the median income for a family was $55,539. Males had a median income of $39,566 versus $27,353 for females. The per capita income for the county was $21,671. About 4.50% of families and 5.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.40% of those under age 18 and 6.20% of those age 65 or over.
