Falco Lombardi
Encyclopedia : F : FA : FAL : Falco Lombardi
Falco Lombardi is an anthropomorphic falcon character in Nintendo's Star Fox series of video games. He is voiced by Hisao Egawa in the Japanese versions of the series, Ben Cullum in Star Fox Adventures and English dialogue of Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Mike Madeoy in Star Fox: Assault.
History
Falco's past is mysterious, always avoiding conversations of what he did before joining the team. It is known, however, that he is a former member of a gang of Space Hot-Rodders (although the games never mention this). Falco is seen as the finest pilot of the Star Fox team, possessing a high skill level when at the cockpit of an Arwing. Shortly after the story of Star Fox 64, he left the team. Where he went and why is unknown, but he does reappear again at the end of Star Fox Adventures to save Fox, and subsequently returns to the Star Fox team. He is, once again, an active member of Star Fox in Star Fox: Assault as the Ace-Pilot.Falco has a rivalry with Star Wolf's Leon Powalski, though the reason for it is unknown. It's possible the two had encountered each other during Falco's days as a gang member. He also has a possible love interest in Katt Monroe (who appears to assist the Star Fox team in Star Fox 64). It is possible the two were in the same gang prior to Falco joining the Star Fox team.
Falco never goes on a ground mission in , as he has stated (in Star Fox 64), "I'll take the sky any day!".
Trivia
- In Star Fox: Assault, Falco is the only one on the team besides Fox himself to wear the Star Fox logo, a fox with wings. He has the insignia on his left arm and his right shoulder. He is also playable in the game's multiplayer portion.
- Falco is not a playable character in the original Super Smash Bros. game. However, he is present in the sequel, Super Smash Bros. Melee, as a light, fast, close combat fighter whose down-A in the air is one of the most infamous "spike" in the game (in Melee, a spike is an attack that sends an opponent character downwards, without possibility of recovery). He is one of the game's hidden characters; to unlock him, the player must beat the 100-Man-Melee in Multi-Man Melee mode, or play 300 matches of Versus Mode. He plays similarly to the original SSB Fox on the Nintendo 64, and the moves of Falco and Fox are nearly duplicates. Falco's blaster stuns and lacks multi-fire (unlike Fox's), but is extremely effective when performed after a short hop, thus removing most of the lag of the blaster. Falco is significantly slower than Fox, and his up-B attack is noticeably shorter-ranged and weaker than Fox's. This serves as a balance for him against other characters. Falco is now considered a top-tier character alongside Fox. It is currently unknown if Falco will return in the sequel, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
- Though many of the other characters from the Star Fox series were used when Dinosaur Planet was redesigned to become Star Fox Adventures, Falco did not have a major role in the final game, only appearing at the very end to save the day.
- Falco is also considered one of the most popular and useful of the Star Fox team. Popular due to his image and attitude and useful as he rarely requires help from Fox and often aides Fox by shooting down opponents. Early profiles suggest that he rivals Fox's skills and may even be better than him.
- Like Fox, Falco appears to have reverted to his original attire for the upcoming Star Fox Command. He is shown piloting a raptor-like customised Arwing.
