Fat Controller Magazine is the United Kingdom's National Student Magazine and was founded by Durham University graduate Douglas Bell. The concept of Fat Controller Magazine is to raise the bar of Student Media with a publication of professional standards, whilst being a platform for talented young writers and artists to launch careers from. Distribution is managed by a network of students at the UK's top academic institutions, including Cambridge University, Bristol University, the University of Glasgow and London School of Economics. The magazine runs monthly, during academic term time, and covers travel, politics, media, careers, music, film and science. Fat Controller immediately made a name for itself, calling for the abolition of the NUS in its first issue for their apparent lack of impact, involuntary membership, failing leadership and political leanings.
High profile interviewees of Fat Controller Magazine include Cameron Diaz, Andrew Marr, Louis Theroux, Hard-Fi, Death Cab for Cutie, Brendan Benson, David Miliband and Judge Jules.
