FedEx Ground (formerly Roadway Package System)is a shipper that was originally a regional small package shipping company started by Roadway Services and headquartered in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. It was created to compete against UPS. When Roadway Services spun off Roadway Express, Roadway Package System was rebranded as RPS. RPS grew to offer national and international small package shipping.
RPS was renamed FedEx Ground in January 2000 [link], two years after being acquired by FedEx, a company that offers overnight courier and logistics services. FedEx Ground's headquarters remain in Pittsburgh.
