Federal Medical Center, Carswell
Encyclopedia : F : FE : FED : Federal Medical Center, Carswell
The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas is a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility that provides specialized medical and mental health services to female offenders. FMC Carswell is located in the northeast corner of Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, and houses approximately 1,400 inmates. The facility is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Articles criticizing FMC Carswell have appeared in various media outlets, although the mainstream media has yet to pick up these stories. These articles focus on allegations of medical malpractice as well as sexual abuse of inmates by staff. Indeed, some FMC Carswell staff members have been found guilty of sexual abuse of inmates and sentenced to incarceration [link]. There is no evidence that this kind of abuse is more widespread at FMC Carswell than at other federal or state prison facilities.
