Fiat 130

Encyclopedia : F : FI : FIA : Fiat 130

The Fiat 130 was a large Italian saloon and coupé automobile known for its elegant body style, which was very modern for its time. The Coupé was designed by Pininfarina.

The 130 was produced from 1969 to 1977. It was first available with a 2.8 litre and then a 3.2 litre V6 engine designed by Ferrari engine designer Aurelio Lampredi. The twin overhead cams were belt driven, resulting in a smooth and silent powerplant. It became quite famous because in 1978 the Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro was crashed into, kidnapped, and later killed by the terrorist group Red Brigades, whilst he was travelling in a black, official Fiat 130.
