Fielding Lewis

Encyclopedia : F : FI : FIE : Fielding Lewis

Fielding Lewis was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Washington, the sister of the American President and Revolutionary War General George Washington. Commissary General of Munitions during the Revolutionary War, he held the title of brigadier general. They resided near Fredericksburg, Virginia, at their estate, later named Kenmore House. It is now open to the public for viewing.

The Kenmore estate purchased the property said to be "George Washinton's Boyhood Home", Ferry Farm, to keep it from being developed. Both Fielding and his wife Betty are commemorated with street names in the nearby Ferry Farm subdivision (Fielding Circle and Betty Lewis Drive).
