Final hero

Encyclopedia : F : FI : FIN : Final hero

Final Hero, often abbreviated to FH, is an online browser-based strategy RPG played by over 6000 players to date. The first version of Final Hero was launched in October 2005, based on older MMORPGs such as Kings of Chaos, but the game features have changed significantly since then.

Final Hero was developed by Takaki Oshima. For the latest version of the game, Kuon and Kros joined the development team.

The game is free to play and is funded through donations and advertisement revenues.

Gameplay

The aim is to earn gold by developing a town and raiding other players' towns for gold, while successfully defending your own.

The game is split up into ages which last around three months, after which everything is reset and the game starts afresh. The game is currently in its fourth age.

There are four important resources to collect:

You can increase your production of food by training farmers and your income by training workers. Every twenty minutes you receive three turns and a certain amount of food and gold, according to the number of farmers and workers you have. You can also train soldiers to attack and defend your city, and arm them with weapons that become more powerful and more expensive as the game goes on. You also have a hero who can inflict more damage than regular soldiers, but takes more money to upgrade.

Another special type of personnel are ninjas. Provided your ninja power is high enough, they enable you to see an opponent's attack and defence, which can help you decide whether or not to attack them. They can also help you to obtain artifacts, bonus items which boost your attack or defence. Artifacts can also be taken during a successful raid on a player who has one already.

During an attack, you may receive skill points, abbreviated to SP, depending on the defence of the opponent you have beaten. These points can be used to learn new skills which boost your hero power. However, to use them, you need shards, which are collectible in the same way as food.

A player's rank is dependent on four stats: attack power, defence power, hero power and ninja power. Ranks update every twenty minutes.

Strategies

There are many different techniques to develop a settlement. A player might rely on putting their initial funds into increasing their attack strength, then use it to earn more money through raiding other people. This is quite risky as it could result in being raided before they have the chance to invest it. Another tactic is to ignore attack at first and concentrate solely on defence, ninjas, workers and farmers, build up a healthy income, before increasing attack towards the end of the age. This is known as rank-hiding, as their rank does not necessarily indicate their actual strength. However, if a player comes out of hiding too early, their defence may not be high enough to protect them from raids from higher-ranked players. On the other hand, coming out of hiding too late may lead to a player not having enough time to improve their rank to a large extent. Sometimes, untraining existing troops, for which a player receives half the training price, can be a valuable source of instant income. This is especially useful for upgrading weapons. However the player must judge whether the increase gained from the upgrade is comparable to the loss made by the untraining of soldiers.

By far the most important element in the game is the development of alliances. These are groups of players who offer each other protection and share their incomes. One player does not usually get attacked by another member of the same alliance - unless there is a sell-off, which is where a weaker yet richer member of an alliance sells all their defence and informs a stronger member that they are about to do so, so that they can raid the gold before it gets into another alliance's hands. While not being against the rules, this is frowned upon by most players. Teamwork is ultimately the best way for players to succeed.

FH-2

The next version of the game, known as FH-2, is planned for release in June or July 2006. It is still under development. It will host a variety of new features such as an RPG-style storyline, different locations, character stats and AI battling. A new site layout and design is also planned for FH-2. This will be a very fun game.

Final Hero Origins

Final Hero Origins, often abbreviated to FHO is a simpler form of the current Final Hero version. It is a remake of the first version of FH and is considered by many the most memorable of all the ages. Features in FHO which were taken out in later ages include settlements, tactics and unit clicking. However, although clicking appeared in the original age, it was taken out in FHO.

Final Hero Origins was taken down in June 2006 due to the numerous bugs and glitches that have appeared in the game.

Age 2 / Final Hero Rapid

FHO was replaced by Final Hero Rapid (or FHR), a remake of Age 2, but with turns coming every five minutes instead of 20, and without alliances. The original Age 2 was quite unlike Age 1, because after it had been going on for a week, players' stats were already in the trillions. Attack suffered because wonders gave huge boosts to defences, and ninjas were hard to reach until near the end. Guardians of Faith, Shadow Knights, and Empire of Destruction were the main alliances, but GoF died after DarkVade and thebestrc, both in the top 3, quit the game. Kinslayer eventually won the age, with Warrior and ATOMIC_vampire in 2nd and 3rd respectively. SK and EoD remained top alliances until the end of the age.

FHR is currently being run alongside the main age, although it will soon be taken down, as there are some known bugs and most players' stats have already reached server limits.

Major Alliances

Fourth Dimension were the winners of the first two ages of the game. They are considered the first major power to have dominated in Final Hero.

[Shadow Knights] is a strong alliance which rivalled Fourth Dimension near the start of the game, and continues to perform strongly throughout Final Hero. It suffered a bit of inactivity due to the main members quitting playing Final Hero but has recently been revived with the return of Steiner who was the founder of the Shadow Knights.

Empire of Destruction is an alliance that formed during Age 2 from two alliances: Empire of Destruction and Midnight Raiders. They were one of the top alliances in Age 2 but suffered a plague of inactivity in Age 3.

Etheria is a fairly recent alliance that emerged as the winners of Age 3. At one point, they held eight spots in the top ten rankings. Their member base is largely in the Asiatic regions and most of them speak Tagalog.

UntdFrkersInAlliance is currently the largest alliance. The name is a reference to Fark.com, as the majority of its members joined via a referral link, which its leader posted on Fark.

Molon Labe (ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ) is ancient Greek for "Come and take them!". It was the response of Spartan General-King Leonidas to Xerxes, the Persian Emperor, when Xerxes promised to spare their lives in exchange for them laying down their weapons. In modern times it has been a rally call for 2nd Amendment defenders. Most of the members are from http://www.ar15.com, a website devoted to the AR-15 rifle. While new, they have been a dominant force, with many members in the top 100, and usually holding down at least 3 spots in the top ten.
