Background
Like standard Marine Infantry, Firebats are typically “culturally challenged persons” who have been "Resocialized" by the Confederate government. Equipped with powerful, arm-mounted flamethrowers, they serve as assault troopers in the various Terran Militias. Although their attack has a limited range, their flamethrowers cause considerable damage to any target caught within the stream of fire. Firebat Combat Suits provide additional protection from heat and flame, although they are significantly heavier than standard Marine armor.
taken from StarCraft ManualIn-Game Unit
Firebats are the infantry complement to Marines, and are perfectly suited to it. They are almost identical to their Marine counterparts, except for that Firebats wield Perdition flamethrowers. The flamethrowers do a very high amount of splash damage, but it is greatly reduced against armor and large units. This makes Firebats well-suited for fighting Zerg units, especially Zerglings. Like the Marines, Firebats may use Stim Pack, which (at the cost of 10 health) temporarily increases the units' speed and attack speed. Due to their close-combat proficiencies, Firebats and Marines are often grouped together: the Firebats attack enemy units that try to engage in hand to hand combat, while the Marines engage ranged enemies. When paired with Medics to heal damage, even while they fight, Firebats under the influence of Stimpacks can even handle large units despite the damage reduction, and hold of the significantly stronger Protoss Zealot.Famous Firebats
