Firkin Brewery
Encyclopedia : F : FI : FIR : Firkin Brewery
The Firkin Brewery is a chain of pubs originating in the United Kingdom.
Established in 1979 by David Bruce as Bruce's Brewery it grew as a chain of mostly brewpubs offering cask ale. The chain is now owned by Spirit Group (having been acquired as part from Allied Domecq in 1999). The pubs are distinguishable because they all follow the same naming convention: The ---- and Firkin. The brewery side of the chain has stopped.
There are now Firkin pubs in the United States and Canada as well as in Australia.
A firkin is an old English unit of volume.
