Fiza is a 2000 Indian film directed and written by Khalid Mohammed. The film features the hit song Mehboob Mere performed by Sushmita Sen.
Synopsis
Six years after Fiza's (Karisma Kapoor) brother (Aman played by Hrithik Roshan) disappears during the 1993 Mumbai riots, she goes to look for him. When she does find him, to her horror she sees that he has joined a terrorist group.
She forces him to come home, and he finally re-unites with their mother (played by Jaya Bachchan). However his allegiance and thoughts make him want to join the terrorist network, led by Murad Khan (Manoj Bajpai). A confrontation with two men who harress Fiza leads to Aman revealing his involvement with the terrorist network in front of his sister, mother and the police. His mother's grief and disappointment eventually leads her to commit suicide.
Fiza tries once more to find her brother, with the help of Anirudh (Bikram Saluja). Aman has been sent on a mission to kill two powerful politicians, when he does succeed in assassinating them, his own terrorist group tries to kill him. He escapes and Fiza follows him. They confront each other and with the police closing in on him, he asks her to kill him. After much persuasion Fiza kills her brother.
Audience Response
The film was a critically acclaimed hit. Audiences praised the three lead performances. Karisma Kapoor in particular was applauded for her performance as a disillusioned sister. Kapoor would later go on to star in many art house pleasers. She also won the IIFA Best Actress Award for her performance as did Jaya Bachchan in the best supporting actress category. They also both won Filmfare Awards in the best actress and best supporting actress categories.

Trivia
- Originally Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan were supposed to have cameo appearances, but their scenes were removed due to considerations about the length of the running time.
- The scene where Johnny Lever demonstrates different kinds of laughter and makes fun of Shahrukh Khan while Hrithik Roshan stands next to him, smiling, is an insider joke referring to the Cola wars the two stars had with each other. Hrithik endorsed Coca-Cola, Shahrukh Pepsi. A Pepsi commercial had made fun of Hrithik, a fact that outraged some of his fans.
- The shots on the highway and before the bill board in the song "Aaja Mahiya" were done while regular traffic was going on. This would no longer be possible now, as ever since Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000) has been released to become a big hit, traffic stops and people surround Hrithik Roshan by the hundreds whenever he appears in public.
