Fjällvinden

Fjällvinden (full name Tärna(by?) I.K. Fjällvinden) in Tärnaby, Sweden is argueable the most successful alpine skiing club in the history of the sport. Although Tärnaby has a population of a mere 500, Fjällvinden has produced several of the greatest alpine skiers of all times; Ingemar Stenmark, Anja Pärson, Stig Strand and Bengt Fjällberg.
Notable winnings
By the end of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, Fjällvinden had recorded:
- Three Olympic gold medals
- One Olympic silver medal
- Four Olympic bronze medals
- Five World Championship gold medals
- One World Championship silver medals
- Two World Championship bronze medals
- Over 100 victories in the World Cup
- More than 100 Swedish National Championship gold medals.
The name "Fjällvinden" fittingly translates to "The wind on the mountains".
History
IK Fjällvinden was founded in Umfors, while Tärna IK was founded in Tärnaby. The two clubs merged in the 1920's.
