This article is about the ecological community. For the city in Kentucky, see Flatwoods, KY.
Flatwoods refers to an ecological community in the Southeastern coastal plain of North America. Flatwoods are a fire maintained ecosystem dominated by longleaf pine Pinus palustris, slash pine Pinus elliotii, saw palmetto Serenoa repens, and gallberry Ilex glabra. A number of rare animals are typical of this habitat including Red-cockaded Woodpecker (Picoides borealis), flatwoods salamander (Ambystoma cingulatum) and striped newts (Notophthalmus perstriatus).

An extra-terrestrial being is said to have been sighted here (see Flatwoods monster).
