The Flatwoods Monster, also known as the Braxton County Monster, is a famous UFO incident that happened on September 12, 1952 in the town of Flatwoods, in Braxton County, West Virginia.

That afternoon, Sheriff Robert Carr and Deputy Burnell Long were called to investigate a burning object which was seen falling to earth near Flatwoods on the Elk River.

Later, at dusk, four boys who were playing football on the schoolground saw something land on top of a hill on the Bailey Fisher property. On the way to investigate the landing site, the boys were joined by two sons of Kathleen May.

At the site, the boys claimed to have witnessed a hissing, glowing, object about ten feet in diameter. A few feet to the left of the object, they saw a hovering creature with a bright red face, a head shaped like the ace of spades, and bright green clothing which hung in folds from its waist.

The creature seemed to float toward the children, who ran back down the hill to the May home, where they called the sheriff's office. After investigating the incident, the sheriff opined that the children had seen a meteor come to earth, and were later frightened by the eyes of some animal such as a racoon or an owl.
