Florida Territory

The Florida Territory was a historic organized territory of the United States from 1822 to 1845. The land was acquired from Spain at a cost of $5 million in the Adams-Onís Treaty. The ceremonies of transfer took place on July 17, 1821 in Pensacola. General Andrew Jackson served as military governor of the newly acquired territory. On March 30, 1822, the United States merged East Florida and part of West Florida into the Florida Territory.
On March 3, 1845, Florida joined the Union as the 27th state.
