Folkloristics

Folkloristics is the formal academic study of folklore such as fairy tales and folk mythology in oral or non-literary traditions. It makes use of such methods as the Aarne-Thompson classification system or the morphology devised for Russian tales by Vladimir Propp.

Scholars specializing in folkloristics are known as folklorists or mythologists. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they were often called "antiquarians." Some scholars include:
