Foodcourtia is the "food court" planet featured in the universe of the cartoon series Invader Zim, which served as the place Zim would serve and toil after he was banished for single-handedly ruining Operation Impending Doom I.

General History and Information

General

One of many planets conquered by the Irken Empire, it is likely that Foodcourtia is the name given to the planet by the Irkens after its conquering rather than its original title. In the tradition of Irken conquest, the planet was assigned a very specific purpose; in this case, to serve as an intergalactic food-court (a fact not-so-subtly hinted at by its title) where aliens from all over come to feast upon the varieties and quantities of snacks and fast-foods offered there. It is also mentioned that a Time-Warp is involved between Foodcourtia and Earth by Sizz-Lorr, who claims that Zim has abandoned him for 20 years (even though Zim hasn't been gone that long).

The Foodening

The Foodening is a period on Foodcourtia which, when the accumulative and combined amounts of snacking occurring there reach a certain critical mass, a strong gravitational pull is generated, preventing anyone from leaving the planet until the snacking and subsequent gravitational pull subsides. In "The Frycook What Came From All That Space," it is revealed that Zim's former "Fry-Lord" Sizz-Lorr was trapped by the Foodening, which ultimately prevented his pursuit of the escaped-from-Banishment (or as Zim put it, "quit") Zim.

Relevance to Series

Foodcourtia is actually a major part of Zim's past prior to the point in time where the series starts, and is referred to throughout the series and actually revisited in "The Frycook What Came From All That Space."

In the episode "The Frycook What Came From All That Space", the viewer is granted privy to the only pre-"the Nightmare begins" footage of Zim (or at all, for that matter); he has been banished to the snacking world as punishment for rampaging across Irk in a robotic assault walker and ruining Impending Doom I. Consequently, his Pak was re-encoded from "Invader" status to that of a "Food Service Drone," ordered to serve in Sizz-Lorr's Shloogorgh's restaurant without pay or leave.
