- Australian rules football – The main governing body and competition are both known as the Australian Football League (AFL).
- Rugby League – Governed in Australia by the Australian Rugby League. The main competition is the National Rugby League (NRL). See also Rugby league in Australia.
- Rugby Union – In Australia the sport is governed in Australia by the Australian Rugby Union. There is no major 'national' competition, but also see Super 14. See also Rugby union in Australia.

- American football and Canadian football – Generally known in Australia as "gridiron". The ruling body in Australia is Gridiron Australia.
