Ford York engine
Encyclopedia : F : FO : FOR : Ford York engine
The Ford York engine is a four-cylinder Ford diesel engine used in vehicles including the Ford Transit range of vans between 1972 and 1984. Utterly horrible engines that needed a complete rebuild every 40,000 miles, they were the bane of many a fleet mechanic's life.
Thankfully they were replaced in 1984 by the 2.5 DI (direct injection) engine which was a milestone in reliability.
