Fortinbras is a minor fictional character from William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet.

He is a Norwegian crown prince with a few brief scenes in the play, and delivers the final lines that represent a hopeful future for the Danish monarchy and its subjects. His name in French literally means "strong armed."

Due to Fortinbras' impending arrival for much of the play and because his first appearance only comes after the other players have died, are near death, or are caught in inaction, Pat Buchanan has compared the United States in World War I and World War II to Fortinbras in A Republic, Not an Empire and Where the Right Went Wrong. "America comes in like Fortinbras, after the blood-letting is over, to take charge of affairs," Buchanan said in a 2003 panel discussion.

Fortinbras is a play by Lee Blessing.

Fortinbras is also the name of the Murry family's dog in the works of Madeleine L'Engle

Fortinbras was adapted as the final boss in the PlayStation 2 action-adventure game by Capcom. He is portrayed as a gargantuan serpent-like demon lord, with a pair of large wings intact on his back and a third eye on top of his head. Samanosuke Akechi, the main protagonist of the game, used every ounce of his strength to challenged Fortinbras and eventually killed him. After his death, he was succeeded by the ruthless warlord: Oda Nobunaga (The main antagonist and final boss of both and ). After then, Fortinbras is only mentioned in documents found in the two games as the Genma Lord of Time and Space. In however, he is resurrected by his underlings: Claudius, Ophelia and Rosencrantz, the Genma Triumvirate. Fortinbras resurfaces as the Genma God of Light and there has been a change in his appearance. His demon form has a much larger serpent body and he now has a human-like form resembling an European noble, true to Shakespeare's depiction. Fortinbras sports a pocket watch and is dressed completely in white, capable of walking on thin air, with ripples around his feet. He now forged the immense power of immortality, where the power of Onimusha are no longer a match for him...
