Fou-Lu

Encyclopedia : F : FO : FOU : Fou-Lu

In the console game Breath of Fire IV, Fou-Lu is the one half of the "Endless", god-like beings from another dimension. He was summoned by a certain group of people in the hopes that his power would help them resolve their conflict. At the time, their land was instead many small countries and war was running rampant. However, the summoning was botched, and the Endless was split into two souls, divided by both space and time. One arrived in the present, and the other in the "future". Still, the half that became Fou-Lu was extremely powerful, and he brought all the different countries together under what he called the Fou Empire. Knowing that he is incomplete, however, he decides to rest for several centuries until the time when his other half (which takes the form of Ryu) appears in the world.

He slept in a great pyramid while waiting for Ryu. He has two dog-like guardians called Won-qu and A-tur. Won-qu remained in the temple (probably as a guard and companion), while A-tur remained in the castle and later serves to carry Ryu and party inside. They are both willing to serve Ryu as he is the other half of Fou-Lu and thus technically the same person, however if Fou-Lu gives an order that bars Ryu's way they will fight to obey Fou-Lu. This is evident when Won-qu denies the party entrance to Fou-Lu's 'tomb' when he states that he was ordered to keep all out therefore he must deny entrance to even the Fou-Lu's other half.
