The Fourth Battle of Kharkov was part of Operation Polkovodets Rumyantsev, the Red Army's counter-offensive following the Battle of Kursk.

It was fought on in the morning of August 23, 1943 between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. By 12:00 the Soviet divisions of the Voronezh Front and the Steppe Front successfully liberated the city from German forces, annihilating most of the defending forces. The battle opened the opportunities for liberation of the eastern Ukraine. It was the last time that Kharkov changed hands during the Soviet-German War.
