Fox Footy Channel
Encyclopedia : F : FO : FOX : Fox Footy Channel
The FOX Footy Channel is a channel exclusively dedicated to Australian rules football in particular and is run and owned by Foxtel. The channel was created in 2002 after Foxtel won the subscription television broadcast rights to the AFL. Due to current broadcasting rights, each state has a separate version of the channel to allow free-to-air right holders (Nine and Ten in 2006) exclusive live coverage. For example, Channel Ten may broadcast a match between the Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans live in Sydney and Adelaide, preventing Fox Footy from showing the match live, but not in Melbourne or Brisbane, allowing Fox Footy to show these matches live there. Fox Footy will typically repeat all matches after their played, although often with the commentary of the free-to-air network that presented it live originally. Currently, Fox Footy doesn't broadcast state football leagues such as SANFL, WAFL or VFL.
