Frazier Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,348 at the 2000 census. Frazier Park is also used to describe the nearby communities of Pine Mountain Club (PMC), Pinon Pines, Lockwood Valley, Cuddy Valley, Los Padres Estates, and Lake of The Woods.
The city of Frazier Park was named by pioneer Harry McBain for nearby Frazier Mountain. It was established in 1925. The town is contained in Cuddy Canyon inside Los Padres National Forest. Telephone numbers in Frazier Park follow the format (661) 245-xxxx and the area includes two postal ZIP Codes.
Geography
Frazier Park is located at (34.822242, -118.948251)[Geographic references#1GR1].According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.6 km² (4.9 mi²).
Demographics
As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 2,348 people, 922 households, and 601 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 186.2/km² (481.9/mi²). There were 1,203 housing units at an average density of 95.4/km² (246.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.52% White, 0.60% Black or African American, 1.45% Native American, 0.81% Asian, 0.38% Pacific Islander, 5.49% from other races, and 3.75% from two or more races. 12.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 922 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $40,721, and the median income for a family was $46,857. Males had a median income of $45,536 versus $27,333 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $19,302. About 11.0% of families and 12.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.8% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
