Frederick Antwon Taylor (born January 27, 1976, in Pahokee, Florida) is a running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.
High school career
Taylor attended Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Florida and won an All-League honors in football as a runningback.Football Career
Fred Taylor's career at the University of Florida took off in his senior season in 1997. He became only the second running back since Emmitt Smith to run for over 1,000 yards in a season. In addition, he ran for over 100 yards and scored 4 touchdowns in the Gators upset win over the #1 ranked Florida State Seminoles on Senior Day at Florida. After Starring at the University of Florida, he was a first round draft pick of the Jaguars in 1998. He developed into one of the NFL’s top backs in his rookie season, rushing for 1223 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns.Injuries plagued him throughout the early part of his career, leading to the nickname "Fragile Fred." But he recovered and played the entire 2002 and 2003 seasons, and missed only the final 2 games of the 2004 season, rushing for over 1200 yards each year.
Taylor is the only 1,000-yard rusher in Jaguars history (1998, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004). He set 29 team records in 1998, set an NFL postseason record in 1999 for the longest touchdown run, and broke most Jaguars rushing records by 2000. Taylor now holds over 30 team records, as well as the longest run in NFL postseason history (90 yards).
